I am a resident of Carnegie, Glen Eira. I have lived in the area and owned property here for the last 20 years. In the last 5 years I have seen a significant transformation of the suburb to such an extent that I am disturbed by the number (and poor quality) of high-rise apartments being built, old growth trees removed, empty /undeveloped sites left fenced by cyclone fencing for months, historic/period style homes demolished and a massive increase to the amount of cars trying to use the small /narrow streets of Carnegie. For an area that has the lowest ratio of public open space per capita, you would think that Glen Eira would be building new parks when large spaces become available, but no, they are accepting more and more high rise apartment developments. It has got so bad that we are considering getting out of Glen Eira due to the rampant transformation and loss of amenity. What can be done to get the Council to start listening to the wishes of its residents. It seems that only North and South Caulfield is immune to the rampant overdevelopment. Everywhere else has been sacrificed.
The loss of neighbourhood amenity is staggering and yet the City of Glen Eira seems completely blind and deaf to the requests of local residents in Carnegie to curb the rate and scale of developments.
