{"id":2161,"date":"2015-07-26T22:59:18","date_gmt":"2015-07-26T12:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sos.asn.au\/?p=2161"},"modified":"2016-07-02T14:54:16","modified_gmt":"2016-07-02T04:54:16","slug":"planning-act-amendment-recognising-objectors-bill-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sos.asn.au\/vic\/2015\/07\/26\/planning-act-amendment-recognising-objectors-bill-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Planning Act Amendment (Recognising Objectors) Bill 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Planning Minister Wynne claims the Bill is going to improve decision-making and planning outcomes, and increase the confidence of residents in the planning system.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will it make a difference?\u00a0 Very little\u2026..\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/sos.asn.au\/vic\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/PEA-ROBill-SOS-Subrev.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">See our edited submission<\/a> to the Parliamentary Environment &amp; Planning Committee (submissions closed on July 6).<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Planning Act Amendment (Recognising Objectors) Bill 2015\" href=\"http:\/\/sos.asn.au\/vic\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Act-with-changes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">THIS<\/span><\/a> is how the relevant bits of the Act would read if the Bill in its current form is passed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This issue is politically important because this Bill is the result of an ALP election promise to <em>\u2018give the community a voice<\/em>\u2018.\u00a0 The Minister claims the Bill will improve decision-making and planning outcomes, and increase community confidence in the planning system.\u00a0 But if it\u2019s going to be able to do that, it needs to be toughened up a bit first \u2013 and the Upper House of Parliament is the best place to start!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So please lobby your local MPs and cross-bench Upper House MPs, even if you just reiterate some of our key points and your own comments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliament.vic.gov.au\/epc\/article\/2707\" target=\"_blank\">Sixteen submissions<\/a> have been lodged with the Upper House Parliamentary Environment &amp; Planning Committee, which consists of 3 Coalition MPs, 3 ALP MPs, Greens planning spokesperson Samantha Dunn MP and Daniel Brown MP of the Shooters and Fishers Party \u2013 quite a varied bunch, and the cross-benchers have more power in the new Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>At a half-day hearing on July 10, five organisations also addressed the Committee &#8211; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliament.vic.gov.au\/epc\/article\/2705\" target=\"_blank\">transcripts of their comments can be read HERE <\/a>(including only one community group presentation).<\/p>\n<p>The Bill won&#8217;t come up again in the Parliament until after the winter recess (ie, in August), so this is an ideal time to talk to your local MP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Planning Minister Wynne claims the Bill is going to improve decision-making and planning outcomes, and increase the confidence of residents in the planning system.\u00a0 Will it make a difference?\u00a0 Very little\u2026..\u00a0\u00a0 See our edited submission to the Parliamentary Environment &amp; Planning Committee (submissions closed on July 6).
