This\u2029 photographic \u2029exhibition \u2029portrays \u2029some\u2029 of \u2029the \u2029diverse \u2029range\u2029 of \u2029Victorians \u2029who, \u2029faced\u2029
\nwith \u2029evidence \u2029of \u2029climate \u2029change \u2029and \u2029environmental \u2029degradation, \u2029have \u2029acted\u2029 to \u2029live \u2029more\u2029
\nsustainably. \u2029\u2029The \u2029images \u2029(by \u2029John\u2029 Werrett, \u2029curated \u2029by \u2029Morag \u2029Loh)\u2029 show \u2029home\u2029 and\u2029
\nworkplace \u2029initiatives by individuals \u2029who\u2029 aren’t \u2029waiting \u2029for \u2029government \u2029leadership \u2029but\u2029
\nproviding \u2029their \u2029own\u2029 solutions\u2029 to\u2029 one \u2029of \u2029the \u2029most \u2029challenging \u2029issues \u2029of \u2029our \u2029times.<\/p>\n

WestWyck\u2029 Eco \u2029Village, \u2029West \u2029Brunswick, \u2029a \u2029model \u2029of \u2029sustainable \u2029development\u2029 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Westwyck \u2029aims \u2029to \u2029minimise \u2029reliance \u2029on \u2029mains \u2029water \u2029and \u2029lessen \u2029discharge \u2029via \u2029storm\u2029 water \u2029and \u2029sewer.\u2029  A \u2029CSIRO \u2029study \u2029found \u2029WestWyck \u2029town\u2029houses \u2029and \u2029apartments \u2029consumed \u202964% \u2029less \u2029mains \u2029water \u2029than\u2029 similar \u2029housing\u2029 serviced \u2029by \u2029Yarra \u2029Valley \u2029Water.  \u2029Rain\u2029water \u2029from \u2029the \u2029roof \u2029is \u2029heated\u2029 by \u2029solar \u2029energy \u2029to\u2029 provide \u2029hot \u2029water.  \u2029Grey\u2029water \u2029from \u2029kitchens\u2029 and\u2029 bathrooms \u2029is \u2029treated \u2029to \u2029Class \u2029A \u2029Standard\u2029 and\u2029 used \u2029to\u2029 flush \u2029toilets \u2029and\u2029 water \u2029gardens.  \u2029Organic \u2029kitchen\u2029 and \u2029toilet \u2029waste \u2029is \u2029treated \u2029in \u2029a \u2029large\u2029 worm \u2029farm.\u2029 The\u2029 resulting \u2029liquid \u2029is\u2029 pumped \u2029through \u2029evapo\u2010transpiration \u2029beds\u2029 and \u2029filtered \u2029by\u2029 indigenous \u2029plants \u2029such \u2029as\u2029 local\u2029 grasses \u2029and\u2029 woolly \u2029ti\u2010tree.  \u2029Excess \u2029water \u2029goes \u2029to \u2029the \u2029sewers.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2029\u2029WestWyck\u2029 also\u2029 demonstrates \u2029the\u2029 two \u2029other\u2029 key\u2029 sustainability \u2029principles \u2029of \u2029efficient \u2029use\u2029 of \u2029materials \u2029and\u2029 energy<\/em><\/p>\n
